Brighton, Munford, TRA pick up wins on opening day

Brighton baseball hosted Tipton-Rosemark Academy on Monday and came away with a 7-4 win to open the season.

Garett Glass doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs to lead the offense. Carson Hooper singled twice and drove in a run, Kaiden Ingram and Caiden Gaines each singled twice and Jaxon Tillman drove in a run for the Cardinals.

Tillman struck out six and allowed just one hit and no run in four innings of relief to pick up the win on the mound.

R.J. Massey led TRA with a pair of hits.

The game was tied 4-4 through three innings before the Cardinals scored one in the fourth and two in the sixth to secure the win.

In other action:

Munford’s baseball team got the season off to a good start with an 11-6 win at Jackson North Side behind a big game from Houston Yount.

Yount went 3-for-4 with three runs scored as the Cougars scored five runs in the top of the seventh to pull away for the win.

Jase Greenland drove in two runs and Brodie Fortner helped the offense with three walks. Munford drew 13 walks in the game. Fortner struck out seven and allowed no hits over three innings of relief to earn the win.

Munford’s softball team traveled to Bartlett and came away with a convincing 18-5 win.

Ellie Kate Billings had a double, three singles four RBIs to lead the offense for Munford. Gabby Asbill singled twice and tripled and Kaitlyn McCain added three hits for the Lady Cougars. Ava-Kate Hamm, Addi Jones and Harper Seiler each two hits as Munford racked up 19 hits.

Jones struck out three to earn the win in the circle.

Rosemark’s softball team routed Covington 16-2 on Monday to open the season.

Peyton Sikes had five hits and Addie Thorpe had three hits to lead Rosemark’s offense. Lanie Howe allowed six hits over five innings and just two earned runs to pick up the win.
