Brighton, Covington, Munford, TRA football taking part in scrimmages with 2025 season two weeks away

By Jeff Ireland on August 7, 2025

With the 2025 high school football season just 14 days away, Tipton County football teams will be holding scrimmages this week in preparation for the real deal.

On Thursday, the Brighton Cardinals will host Ripley in a 6 p.m. scrimmage. Ripley went 5-5 last season and missed the playoffs. The Cardinals are coming off a 4-7 season that included a playoff berth.

All of Brighton’s fall sports will take part in Meet the Cardinals, a community event that lets fans interact with the student athletes. It will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at BHS.

Covington will travel to Bartlett for a Friday scrimmage that will start at 6 p.m. This figures to be a challenge for the Chargers, a Class 3A team taking on one from Class 6A, the largest in the state. Bartlett went 8-4 last season and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs. Covington is coming off an 11-2 season that included a trip to the state quarterfinals.

Munford will also challenge itself on Friday when Melrose visits for a 6 p.m. scrimmage. Melrose went 12-4 last season and made it all the way to the Class 4A state title game. Munford, which went 9-2 last season and won its region, beat Melrose 33-32 last year in a wild regular season game.

Tipton-Rosemark will host a three-team scrimmage on Friday against Gleason and St. Benedict at 6:30 p.m. TRA beat St. Benedict, which was 2-8  a season ago, 42-8 in the regular season last year. TRA was 6-5 a year ago and advanced to the DII-A state playoffs. Gleason was 3-7 a season ago.

Covington’s jamboree is Aug. 15 at Union  City and the regular season opens on Aug. 21 (Thursday) at home against Lakeland Prep.

Munford will play in the Dyersburg jamboree on Aug. 15 against Crockett County before opening the season at home  Aug. 22 against Memphis Business Academy.

Brighton  will take part in the Dyersburg jamboree Aug. 15 and open the regular season Aug. 22 at home vs. PURE Academy.

TRA will take part in an Aug. 15 scrimmage at Kirk Academy. The Rebels’ regular season opens Aug. 22 at Donelson Christian.
