Tipton County’s early voting numbers for the first week are 45 percent lower than they were for the same time period during the 2018 midterms, the Tennessee Secretary of State reported Thursday.
The early voting period began on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and, through the end of the first week, 3,959 people had cast ballots.
In 2018, 7,210 people voting early during the first week.
The 2022 turnout so far is 81 percent better than the 2,186 voters who turned out during the first week of voting in 2014.
Other counties across the state are seeing the same trends. Data published by the secretary of state shows no counties are ahead of where they were four years ago.
Turnout is usually higher for presidential elections, so the 2022 turnout is compared to other midterm elections.
When to vote
Early voting will take place through Nov. 3.
The Tipton County Election Commission and First Baptist Church in Atoka will have polls open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
Election day is Nov. 8.
