The Court Square Farmer’s Market opens tomorrow – here’s how it’ll go

By Echo Day on May 15, 2020

Kaye Smith, left, and Sandra Naifeh purchase produce from Steve Sinclair Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Court Square Farmer’s Market.

Our local Farmers Market in Tipton County is set to open to the community this weekend.

“We are expecting about 10 vendors for Opening Day and will kick off the morning with a virtual ribbon cutting through Facebook live. Viewers will have the opportunity to take a tour of the Farmers Market through the livestream video at 8:30 a.m.,” stated David Keith, President of the Covington Economic Development Corporation. CEDC is the local non-profit organization that owns the farmers market.

Early senior shopping hour

The market will offer the same hours of Tuesdays and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Thursdays noon to 6 p.m. However, there will be senior shopping hours available from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Regular patrons of the farmers market are used to purchasing from the vendors as they are setting up their booths. Until further notice, that first hour time frame will be reserved for our local senior citizens until 8:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Additionally, there will be two new parking spots indicated for handicap parking only by the pavilion.

We appreciate our patrons adapting and understanding during this time of change for everyone.

Seasonal items

Customers can expect lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, collard greens, spinach, green onions, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, red potatoes, tomatoes, farm eggs, local honey, fried pies, tamales, tortillas, jams, jellies homemade breads and more.

Health precautions

You can also expect a one way entrance and one way exit of the pavilion.

Vendors will be spaced out six feet apart or more and each will be wearing face masks. You will also have the opportunity to purchase handmade face masks from at least two of our vendors.

Customers will be asked to practice social distancing by remaining six feet apart.

Samples will not be available until further notice.

Additionally, patrons may not touch any food until after it has been purchased and given to you by the vendor.

Readers are encouraged to visit the Court Square Farmers Market on Facebook and Instagram regularly for updates.

For additional information you can call 901-476-9727 or email cedc38019@gmail.com.

The Farmers Market Committee is always accepting new vendors throughout the year. Those interested can use the listed contact information to request a 2020 vendor application.
