Covington Rotary is accepting pre-orders for soup and gumbo fundraiser

By Echo Day on January 27, 2020

The Covington Rotary Club has announced its second annual Souper Bowls fundraiser on Thursday, Jan. 30.

Club members are currently gathering preorders for chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup and chicken and sausage gumbo provided by locally-owned Bon Temps Catering Company. A $7 donation provides a 16 oz. cup of soup, cornbread and a drink.

“Last year we had a great response and we’re hoping to see that again,” said club president Echo Day. “Our focus is on basic education and literacy in Tipton County and the proceeds from this fundraiser will directly support our local projects, such as providing classroom supplies for teachers.”

Rotary International is known, largely, for its efforts in the eradication of Polio, but there are six areas of focus: maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, peace and conflict prevention/resolution, disease prevention and treatment and water and sanitation.

Since 1967 the Covington club has contributed to these causes through various outreach efforts, such as participating in the collection coats for children in the winter, toys at Christmas and school supplies in the summer. For many years club members partnered with the Tipton County Education Foundation and distributed dictionaries to local third graders.

Pickup will take place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. BancorpSouth at the corner of Hwy. 51 and Peeler in Covington.

Delivery is available for orders of five or more per business.

To pre-order, call/text 731-612-2723 or use the online order form at https://forms.gle/2S5NrqC2SniGZZPs5.
