Rosemark volleyball team knocks off six-time defending state champs

By Jeff Ireland on October 17, 2019

The Tipton-Rosemark Academy volleyball team may not win a state title this year and may not even make the state tournament. However, Tuesday’s win at Goodpasture High School in Madison, Tenn. has already made the 2019 season a historic one. TRA beat Webb School of Knoxville, the six-time defending state champs, in a wildly entertaining match (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-7). … [Read more...] about Rosemark volleyball team knocks off six-time defending state champs

Despite loss, Covington volleyball can make history tonight

By Jeff Ireland on October 17, 2019

Tuesday night was supposed to be a big celebration for the Covington Lady Charger volleyball team. Covington was facing Ripley for the Region 8-AA title. They had beaten Ripley three times already, including in last week’s district title match, dropping just one set in those three matches combined. Ripley had other ideas. The Lady Tigers beat Covington 25-15, 25-18 and 28-26 … [Read more...] about Despite loss, Covington volleyball can make history tonight

Ginn and Warmath will be featured on ESPN tonight

By Jeff Ireland on October 10, 2019

It’s been a little more than four months since the Covington High School baseball team capped off a storybook season by beating Forrest for the Class AA state title. Last Thursday at Don Chandler Memorial Field, you would have thought it had just happened. About 200 people - fans, band members, cheeerleaders and parents - showed up as Coach Brad Warmath, Kyle Ginn and the team … [Read more...] about Ginn and Warmath will be featured on ESPN tonight

Opinion: What area football teams will make the playoffs and where will they be seeded?

By Jeff Ireland on October 10, 2019

Making postseason predictions before the season starts is very difficult, so I generally stay away from them. But making postseason predictions after I’ve seen everybody play seven games? I’m up for that. Let’s start with the most popular football team around these parts. A week ago I would have said, with very little reservation, Covington was going to go 10-0 in the regular … [Read more...] about Opinion: What area football teams will make the playoffs and where will they be seeded?

The Munford Middle girls’ soccer team’s season came to an end Monday with a 6-0 loss to White Station Middle in the sectional championship game, but what a season it was. Mac Fullen runs wild as Tipton-Rosemark picks up key league win

By Jeff Ireland on October 8, 2019

Tipton-Rosemark head coach Collin Pinner was a little concerned how his team would play last Friday in Jackson against Trinity Christian Academy. The Rebels had never beaten TCA, were coming off three straight losses and needed a win badly to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot. Turns out there was nothing to worry about. Senior Mac Fullen moved from tailback to fullback … [Read more...] about Mac Fullen runs wild as Tipton-Rosemark picks up key league win

Munford beats Ridgeway, climbs to first place in region

By Jeff Ireland on October 8, 2019

Munford did not look much like a playoff team after an opening game blowout loss to Covington and a less-than-impressive win over Millington the following week. Fast forward five weeks and the Cougars have not only clinched a playoff spot but look like a team that could win its region and host a first-round playoff game. The Cougars (5-2 overall, 3-1 Region 8-5A) erased a … [Read more...] about Munford beats Ridgeway, climbs to first place in region
