Brighton, Munford baseball split two as district schedule winds down

By Jeff Ireland on April 20, 2022

Munford had a chance sew up the number one seed in next month's district tournament with a two-game sweep of Brighton. It didn't happen, though. Brighton won the first game Monday and Munford won game two on Tuesday. That means Munford (18-7 overall, 6-2 District 14-AAA) and Brighton (11-11, 4-2) would finish tied atop the regular season standings if Brighton beats Covington … [Read more...] about Brighton, Munford baseball split two as district schedule winds down

Munford’s offense stays in high gear during blowout of Haywood

By Jeff Ireland on April 8, 2022

The Munford Lady Cougar offense has been on fire lately, scoring double-digit runs its last four games. That trend continued Thursday night at home vs. Haywood in a key District 14-AAA game. Lexi Billings hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and it was all Munford (8-3 overall, 1-1 district) the rest of the way in a 16-0 win that ended after three … [Read more...] about Munford’s offense stays in high gear during blowout of Haywood

With 10 homers in nine games, Brighton Lady Cardinals on track for record-setting season

By Jeff Ireland on April 1, 2022

It's hard, if not impossible, to find records for most homers hit by a high school softball team in a season. It's safe to say, however, that Brighton is on track to hit the most in program history. Heading into last night's district showdown at Munford, the Lady Cardinals had hit eight homers in eight games, led by six from Brie Howard. Last night was more of the same as … [Read more...] about With 10 homers in nine games, Brighton Lady Cardinals on track for record-setting season

Munford baseball sweeps Covington in new district

By The Leader on March 31, 2022

[metaslider id=10339] Covington and Munford’s baseball parking lots were more packed than usual for their annual matchups Monday and Tuesday. The attendance equaled the size of a sub-state game, but the postseason has not begun. Why? History was being made as the two schools collided in district games, which is a first time both teams are competing in the District 14-AAA, so … [Read more...] about Munford baseball sweeps Covington in new district
