Munford routs Kingsbury, moves a step closer to history

By Jeff Ireland on October 25, 2022

Munford was fully expected to easily take care of Kingsbury Friday night at home and remain undefeated … and that’s exactly what happened. The Cougars (9-0 overall, 5-0 Region 8-5A) got strong contributions from several back-ups and scored five times in the first half en route to a 53-0 win over Kingsbury, which fell to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in region action. The win moves … [Read more...] about Munford routs Kingsbury, moves a step closer to history

Undefeated Haywood breaks Covington’s seven-game winning streak

By The Leader on October 24, 2022

It took a third-ranked, undefeated, Class 4A Haywood squad to put an end to the Covington Chargers’ seven-game winning streak. Though Covington played Haywood evenly in the second half, a big first half was too much to overcome. The Tomcats moved to 9-0 with a 34-17 win over the Chargers, who had not lost since the season opener, Friday night in Covington. The Tomcats struck … [Read more...] about Undefeated Haywood breaks Covington’s seven-game winning streak

Rosemark gets big games from Fullen cousins and Sam Cannon to move a win away from playoffs

By Jeff Ireland on October 12, 2022

In the days approaching Tipton-Rosemark's home game vs. Harding Academy last Friday, head coach William Dean had a very specific message for his team. "We told them they have to win the next two to be in, kind of a playoff mindset," Dean said. "If you win you get to keep playing, if you lose you're done." Rosemark chose the first option. Behind huge games from wideout Ellis … [Read more...] about Rosemark gets big games from Fullen cousins and Sam Cannon to move a win away from playoffs

Brighton stays in playoff race with region win vs. Kingsbury

By Jeff Ireland on October 11, 2022

Last Friday's Region 8-5A matchup at home with Kingsbury was the third time this year Brighton deployed its new offense, a run-heavy flexbone. It was pretty obvious from the result, a 44-8 win, that the Cardinals are getting used to their new offensive scheme. "I think we've started executing and flowing a little better offensively with us changing the system, for sure," … [Read more...] about Brighton stays in playoff race with region win vs. Kingsbury

Covington wins region title, earns home field advantage in playoffs with rout of Bolivar

By The Leader on October 10, 2022

Coaches look for efficiency on offense. The Chargers took that statistic to a ridiculous level in a 49-6 rout at Bolivar on Friday night. Covington ran 17 plays from scrimmage in the first half and scored 42 points. That’s 1.75 points per minute or, even crazier, 2.47 points per play. The win clinches the Region 7-3A championship that has eluded the Chargers (6-1 overall, 4-0 … [Read more...] about Covington wins region title, earns home field advantage in playoffs with rout of Bolivar

Munford all but clinches region title with road win vs. Southwind

By Jeff Ireland on October 10, 2022

[metaslider id=11367] Munford didn't officially clinch its third straight Region 8-5A title with Friday night's league win vs. Southwind. But, for all intents and purposes, Munford has now won three straight region titles. After an impressive 31-20 win in Memphis against the Jaguars, who entered the game tied with Munford atop the region standings, the team got together and … [Read more...] about Munford all but clinches region title with road win vs. Southwind
