About two weeks ago, eight Tipton County-area basketball teams began their postseason. After the Covington girls fell last night, there is only local team left: the Munford Cougars. Munford, the fourth seed out of District 14-AAA, upset top-seeded Dyer County 72-62 Saturday night in Newbern to move into a region semifinal game tonight vs. Ripley in Ripley. Game time is 6 … [Read more...] about Last team standing: Munford boys are only local basketball team alive in postseason

Covington tops Munford in emotion-filled district game

By Jeff Ireland on January 19, 2022

[metaslider id=10079] The fans in a nearly packed Munford gym saw a typical down-to-the-wire rivalry game Tuesday night filled with emotion. One fan was ejected in the second quarter, Munford's Jordan Bell and Covington's Elijah Ford got into a shoving match and Covington head coach Charles Mitchell and some Munford fans exchanged some less-than-friendly words. Munford Lady Cougars rout Ripley in district opener

By Jeff Ireland on January 12, 2022

[metaslider id=10043] The Munford Lady Cougars were missing two starters Tuesday night in their district opener at home and junior Brezia Cooper is still easing into her new role as the team's point guard. None of that seemed to matter, though, as the Lady Cougars jumped on Ripley early and cruised to a 32-13 win. "I told our girls if you can just give us great effort on … [Read more...] about Munford Lady Cougars rout Ripley in district opener
