Brighton uses devastating rushing attack to rout Fayette-Ware

By Jeff Ireland on October 12, 2020

[metaslider id=6817] Considering Brighton compiled 399 rushing yards earlier this season against Munford, Fayette-Ware's coaches and players had to be aware the Cardinals' rushing attack was capable of controlling a game. It's doubtful, however, they believed Brighton was going to do what it did Friday night in Somerville. Brighton racked up an incredible 567 rushing yards … [Read more...] about Brighton uses devastating rushing attack to rout Fayette-Ware

Week 8 football previews: Brighton, Munford and Tipton-Rosemark face stiff tests tonight

By Jeff Ireland on October 9, 2020

Brighton and Munford, thanks to COVID-19, are already done with region play, so each will play newly-scheduled non-region teams tonight on the road. Rosemark, meanwhile, will play a league opponent it needs two beat to keep its postseason hopes alive. Here's a quick look at each game: What: Brighton (2-5) vs. Fayette-Ware (5-1) Where: Fayette-Ware High School When: Friday at 7 … [Read more...] about Week 8 football previews: Brighton, Munford and Tipton-Rosemark face stiff tests tonight

Munford soccer ends Brighton’s season and moves on to district title game

By Jeff Ireland on October 7, 2020

[metaslider id=6742] For a while Monday afternoon in Munford, it looked like the Lady Cougar soccer team was about to see its season end at the hands of its biggest rival. Taylor Couch scored on a goal assisted by Madisyn Kendall and Brighton led 1-0 late in the first half of a District 14-AAA tournament semifinal game. The winner would move on to the title game and qualify … [Read more...] about Munford soccer ends Brighton’s season and moves on to district title game

Local world champion cornhole player Lynda Oglesby trying to grow the sport in Tipton County

By Jeff Ireland on October 6, 2020

[metaslider id=6732] Five years ago Lynda Oglesby won a cornhole set at a local chili cook off. She had never played the game, which involves throwing bean bags toward a board with a hole in it. But Oglesby was willing to give it a try, so she set the boards up in her backyard and started tossing. "I couldn't hit the boards and when I did they slid off," Oglesby says. She … [Read more...] about Local world champion cornhole player Lynda Oglesby trying to grow the sport in Tipton County

Milan slows down Covington’s offense in 14-7 triple overtime win

By Jeff Ireland on October 5, 2020

[metaslider id=6704] There's a good chance Milan and Covington will meet again in the postseason, but that did not make Friday night's home loss to the Bulldogs any easier to stomach. For the second straight season, Milan's defense held Covington's prolific attack in check and pulled out a dramatic 14-7 Region 7-3A win. Covington coach J.R. Kirby was not happy after the … [Read more...] about Milan slows down Covington’s offense in 14-7 triple overtime win

A war of words? Eh, kind of … Week 7 previews for Covington-Milan, Brighton-Arlington, TRA-TCA

By Jeff Ireland on October 2, 2020

In high school football it's pretty rare to get a little pre-game back and forth between two coaches, but we are lucky enough to have some of that heading into tonight's showdown between second-ranked Covington and sixth-ranked Milan. Thanks to my buddy Victor Parkins over at the Milan-Mirror Exchange, it was relayed to me that Milan head coach Carl Diffee said the following: … [Read more...] about A war of words? Opinion: Football during COVID, playoff scenarios and Covington Charger dominance

By Jeff Ireland on September 30, 2020

Now that we are a little more than halfway through the high school football season, this seems like a good time to run through a few things we’ve learned along the way. The most obvious thing I think we’ve learned is that it looks like high school football can co-exist with COVID-19. I love it when people say what I’m about to write because it implies you are not honest … [Read more...] about Opinion: Football during COVID, playoff scenarios and Covington Charger dominance

Football roundup: Munford, Brighton, Tipton-Rosemark lose Week 6 games

By Jeff Ireland on September 29, 2020

[metaslider id=6681] Munford remained competitive with Hardin County for a while Friday night in Munford, but in the end the Tigers had too much firepower. Quarterback Rivers Hunt and wideout Kaydin Pope, both high-level college prospects, had big games and Hardin County, which is ranked second in the AP Class 4A state poll, beat Munford 42-14. Pope caught six passes for 175 … [Read more...] about Football roundup: Munford, Brighton, Tipton-Rosemark lose Week 6 games
