A 9/11 memorial event will be held in Atoka Saturday morning

By Echo Day on September 10, 2021

Tribute In Lights 9/11

On Saturday, Sept. 11 the Town of Atoka will host a 9/11 memorial to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the terror attacks on the U.S.

On that day, four separate terror attacks by militant group al-Qaeda took place with two planes crashing into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and a fourth into a field in Pennsylvania after missing what many believe was its intended target, the White House.

The first attack took place at 8:46 a.m. EST.

A total of 2,996 people were killed in the attacks.

Now known at Patriot Day, 9/11 has become a day of remembrance for the lives lost and a day of thanks for the military and first responders.

Called United, the county-wide event is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Town Hall complex, 334 Atoka-Munford Ave.
