Tipton County Schools scales in-person classes to four days only

On Thursday, the Tipton County Schools announced in-person learning had been cut back to just four days per week.

Beginning Sept. 25, Fridays will be distance learning days only until Fall Break, when the district will re-evaluate its plans.

Fall Break is currently scheduled for Oct. 13-16.

“While this decision may create scheduling conflicts for some families, we request your understanding,” Director of Instruction Dr. Rebekah Byrd said in a press release Thursday. “Our instructional plan has and will continue to be fluid. We want to keep our students in school, but we also need to ensure that we are providing an appropriate instructional experience to each of the 10,400 students in our system.”

The district said SACC will be available on Fridays for those already enrolled. Caregivers are asked to contact students’ SACC sites for more information.

“As always, we appreciate your support and resilience during this challenging time.”

Last week, superintendent Dr. John Combs said 71 percent of students are attending classes in person, up from 65 percent a month ago.
