On Friday, the Town of Atoka announced it’d cancelled the upcoming Atoka BBQ Fest, park activities, meetings and more.
“The Town of Atoka are taking certain precautions to protect our citizens, customers, and staff due to recent concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus,” mayor Darryl Walker said in a press release. “Things are changing from day to day and we will do our best to keep you informed with the most updated information.”
The BBQ Fest, which was set for April 3-4 and is one of the town’s most popular events, was not the only thing cancelled.
All parks and recreation activities which include Atoka AYSO Soccer, Atoka Softball, STEM Art Class and Adult Kickball have been postponed. Spring Break Camp (March 23-27) and the Bunny Brunch (April 11) have been cancelled.
“As of Friday March 20, all park activities are cancelled till further notice,” Walker said. “This includes the bathrooms and playgrounds at Nancy Lane, Walker, Pioneer, and Adkison Park. We are unable to make sure the bathrooms and playgrounds are always fully sanitized if they are constantly being utilized. The trails and walking paths are still available, but we still encourage social distancing recommended by the CDC.”
Modified Town Hall Services
All after hour meetings scheduled by the public at Town Hall will be cancelled until further notice.
The lobby is not currently open to the public and town leaders are asking the public use the drive-thru lane for service.
These services can also currently be taken care of online at www.townofatoka.com. Residents can pay utility bills, property taxes and report a concern or public works non-emergency issue with Atoka Connect App.
Residents can also still contact the town via phone during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for these services at 901-837-5300. The drop box on the west side of town hall building is also available for utility bill and property tax payments.
“We also ask if you do come in person, instead of using the lobby area, our staff will be available to help you through the drive-through area. Please drive around into the drive-through lane for service.
“The Town of Atoka encourages you to take care of yourself and your families by taking proper precautions,” Walker said. “Wash your hands frequently and stay home if you can. Check on the elderly, family and friends and make sure they are okay and see if they need help.”
