It’s already starting to look a lot like Christmas on the Covington Square.
Now in its 20th year, the annual Christmas open house will begin Thursday with a Jingle & Mingle ladies’ night out.
“Everyone is getting everything out for Christmas,” said Lisa Keith, co-owner of Court Square Antiques. “The stores look like they’re going to be packed with a lot of Christmas decor and gifts.”
The open house has become a tradition for a lot of people in Tipton County. Several businesses will be open later than usual Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The festivities will get started with the Jingle & Mingle ladies’ night out from 5-8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
In addition to the many sales and specials going on, refreshments will be available for shoppers.
Businesses will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Carol Meadows, who owns the new decor store Rustic Meadows, is looking forward to her first Christmas season on the square.
“I’m hoping we’ll have a big crowd. It’ll be great exposure and will allow us to meet new people and have them in the store,” she said. “I’m excited about it.”
Meadows said she, like many of the square merchants, has a lot of magical things up her sleeve for the Christmas season.
“I’m really ready to decorate!”
On Monday, Christmas banners began being installed the day of the Scare on the Square trick-or-treating event. Scarecrows sat with fixed smiles, patiently waiting while lights were being strung around poles.
The season is changing and the square merchants are as ready as ever.
“This really kicks off the Christmas season,” Keith said. “Thursday we’re really busy, it’s slower on Friday and Saturday we’re pretty busy.”
