Dozens of Tipton County student athletes took part in last week’s state track meet in Murfreesboro and a handful brought home state titles.
A year after taking second place, Munford senior Jace Hodgin won the Class AA decathlon. Hodgin also teamed up with Tyler Williams, Malik Curry and Isaiah Cobbs to win the 4×200 relay.
Hodgin finished sixth in the pole vault and teammate Brady Millican was seventh. Ryan Coley finished seventh in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.
Munford’s girls finished sixth overall thanks to several strong performances.
Emily Bey finished sixth in the pentathlon, fourth in the triple jump and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles. Teammate Cara Bruce set a school record to finish fourth in the 3,200. She was also sixth in the 800 and seventh in the 1,600. Kaleia Lee was third in the triple jump and Kayla Jones was fifth in the long jump. Storie Ivy and Bryce Barbera finished eight and ninth, respectively, in the pole vault and Kaelyn Coker was eighth in the 800.
San’Darius Coleman led the Covington with a pair of state championship runs. He won the 400-meter run with a personal best time of 40.3. The 800-meter was no problem as he cruised to a state championship in that run as well.
The 4x400relay team of Coleman, Dalton Travis, Jaylen Dowell and Chris Rudd placed eighth. Travis turned in an eighth-place finish in the 1,600 run and Ty Beard took sixth in the long jump competition.
On the girls’ side, Katya Dean came in seventh in the 400. Then team of Dean, Kinlee Carver, Ma’Liyah Gilliam and Kamari Glass competed in three relay events taking fourth in the 4×200, fifth in the 4×100 and third in the 4×400 with a team best time of 4:15.
Hunter Lampley represented Brighton with a sixth-place finish in the 400.
