Another pitcher from Covington signed to play at the next level on Monday. Lane Butler was joined with friends, families and teammates as he penciled down his letter of intent to play under Rusty Thompson at Bethel University.
Butler was a huge asset to the team last season that advanced to the Class-AAA state title game, and Brad Warmath will use his talent a lot this year.
“He can very easily slide into a starting role on the mound for us.” Warmath stated.
Aside from going to a college with a program that develops players, Butler admires their style because it resembles Covington baseball.
“It’s similar to our program. I ain’t got to switch any colors.” Butler smiled.
It is a dream he had since he was nine-years-old and has worked so hard for it that his work ethics is what Warmath emphasizes about.
“Well, he’s a hard-working kid,” Brad Warmath said, “as a coach, you can’t always have eyes on them all the time, but he’s a kid that you know that, when you don’t have your eyes on him, he’s working.”
