The Cause of God and Truth

It is my assumption that all of us have been made aware of what is being called “The War on Christmas.”  Just today, as I write this article, we learn from the news that a federal judge has ruled that the 42 foot tall cross on Mount Soledad should be removed.  It was erected in the mid 1950s, but complaints from atheists and others have prevailed in court.  I wonder how the outcome would be if it were left to the people to vote.  Most of what atheists and liberals win is not at the ballot box, but in court.  What should be a joyous season has become a time for ACLU attorneys to seek out what they consider appropriate religious targets for attack.
Sometimes we believers respond inappropriately to these events.  Threats, name calling, and other personal attacks are made supposedly in the name of God and truth.  I am for defending the faith, the emblems, and monuments that have been erected to recognize the goodness of God to our country.  However, Christianity does not need public crosses or other emblems to exist.  While I deplore the progressive secularization of the United States, I have no fear of meeting atheists, agnostics, nor cultists in the arena of ideas.  God’s truth will defend itself.  The outcome in a courtroom is much less certain.  Many times liberal, anti-religious, and activist judges seem incapable of overcoming their personal biases.  Some seem bent on making religion permissible only inside the walls of the church building.  Christian, let not your heart be troubled, as our Lord has said.  We have read the final page of the book; we know who wins and who loses.
The cause of God and truth will not, yea, cannot fail!  The Bible will stand when all the writings of men have been forgotten and destroyed.  The Christmas story, the historical account of Christ’s birth, will be celebrated regardless of the threatenings and legal actions of atheists.  The Cross of Calvary towers over time and its shadow will remain over mankind until the Lord Jesus returns!  Sinners will still be converted in the future.
Men are empty without the Lord.  They attempt to fill that emptiness with alcohol, drugs, sexual promiscuity, and other things, but still the gnawing of darkness and emptiness continues.  It will continue until Christ is enthroned in the heart of a penitent sinner.  Courts, judges, atheists, and devils cannot change that.  It is what God has placed in the nature of man.  That desire for eternity, for knowledge of what lays beyond that cold, dark wall we call death, prods men to keep looking for something to satisfy them.
Christmas means more than the trees, the tinsel, the gifts, and the food.  It is a poignant reminder that God is real.  Christmas reminds us that the greatest gift this world has ever known is Christ Jesus, the Son of God.  The war by puny men against the Sovereign of the Universe is destined for failure.  The cause of God and truth will prevail.
