Students participate in National Black Caucus Youth Congress Day

Covington High School students, Devin Hollingsworth and David Dowell Jr., were selected to participate in the National Black Caucus Youth Congress Day, held Dec. 11, 2013 at the Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis.

The event included African American United States senators, congressmen and state representatives. Youth delegates were selected from top achieving high schools in Tennessee.

Hollingsworth, a senior, is the senior class president and student council president. She has been accepted and offered an academic scholarship to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, beginning in the fallwhere she will major in medical science. Dowell, a junior, is actively involved in numerous leadership programs. He plans on pursuing a career in the medical field as well.

Delegates of the conference were given a motivational speech and performance by multiple Grammy award-winning gospel artist CeCe Winans.
