We have made it another year by being safe and careful. Let’s make 2014 another safe year that we can fondly put in the record books at year’s end.

Most of what I have written this past year has been about safety in not only handling firearms, but also do not forget about skinning out the trophy. Most of us carry a sharp knife when we are out hunting and a knife cut can be as serious a tool against you as all the other weapons: bow, crossbow, rifle, shotgun, pistols, etc.

We need to update our slogan when we talk to the youngsters who are going to the outdoors that it is not enough to be safe, we need to be safe and play by the rules. The rules were set up to benefit the hunters and wildlife. It is not always the case.

Here is a short press release from the TWRA,

“Reward offered for information about poachers”

“The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWR) offers a reward up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of wildlife poachers.

“Individuals with information about poachers or poaching activities can contact the TWRA by calling one of the regional offices from 7 a.m. until 12 midnight, seven days a week.

“Telephone numbers for reporting poachers are as follows:

West Tennessee (Region I) 1-800-831-1173

Middle Tennessee (Region II) 1-800-255-8972

Cumberland Plateau (Region III) 1-800-241-0767

East Tennessee (Regions IV) 1-800-831-1174

“In addition to ther reward offered by the TWRA, the Tennessee State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation offers up to a $300 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals poaching wild turkeys.

“Information such as the individual’s name or description, vehicle tag number or description, nature of the offense and location of the offence greatly assists the TWRA in apprehending wildlife poachers. All information received by TWRA is kept in the strictest confidence."
