I can’t believe had short sleeves on Saturday when it was near 70 outside! We’ve had crazy weather. We made it through storms Saturday night but my heart goes out to those who lost loved ones in Mississippi and Arkansas in tornadoes. How sad for that to take place at Christmas time.
Shelley Dickey, Liz, Lyla and I drove to Jackson last Wednesday to see my dad, Kenneth Weir. He was having a good day and while opening his Christmas gifts he said, "This must be June 17th - I'm opening lots of gifts!" We were pleasantly surprised that he remembered his birthday! He enjoyed Lyla being there, and we had a good visit. We then went for lunch and a little shopping. It was a great day.
We got James' hearing aid sent off for repairs or replacement Friday, then headed to Memphis for new glasses for both of us. We had lunch and did some shopping and had a fun day.
Saturday, it rained all day so I stayed in and made pecan brittle, turtles and Chex mix my way, just with cashews. We had lunch with Clint and Courtney
Sunday after church and today, Cammy Evans and I had lunch in Munford and saw Tom Hanks in "Saving Mr. Banks." It was a good movie and insight to the author of “Mary Poppins.” Tom Hanks did a great job playing Walt Disney. It was a happy Birthday treat for Cammy!
Martine Dickerson had surgery Thursday and was at church on Sunday! Frank and Marlene Brown's son Frank Jr. had surgery last Wednesday and was at work Friday! Surgery is surely changing - for the better.
On our prayer list are Helen Goforth, who is at Covington Care now, Kali Langston, Pat Armstrong, Joyce Whaley, Judy Randolph, Bonnie Holbrook, Otis Griffin, Keith McCalla and so many more, especially those taking treatments. Also, pray for all our servicemen and women.
There will be a baby shower for Haley Hollingsworth Hall on the 29th at the home of Jennifer McMahan. The birthday party at Covington Care will be at 2:30 p.m. on the 28th. The 29th is a fifth Sunday, so we will have one service at the Covington Church of Christ, 9 a.m. for Sunday school and 10 a.m. for worship service.
We had a treat Sunday night when Mitchell Rogers, Mike and Bonita's son, preached for us. He has finished his first year of "preaching" school and we are proud of him!
There will be no service Christmas night, and we will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 31, next week, instead of Wednesday. Bring finger-foods and games!
Happy birthday this week to Genie Renfroe, Neil Bringle, Chris Max and Jeff Coughlan on Dec. 22, to Chris Laxton on the 23rd, to Michael Moore on the 24th, to Logan Wall, Jill Matlock, Bruce Hazlerig and Shelley Dickey on the 26th, and to Justin Harrell, Cammy Evans and Miranda Hobson on the 28th!
Happy anniversary to Bill and Pat Gatlin on December 25th, and to Jeff and Jennifer Phillips on the 28th!
This week's Famer's Almanac quote: "It is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving." Amen!
"Thanks for reading" this week goes to Linda Delk and my childhood buddy David Karney! Sa-lute!
We here at Mt. Carmel and Mt. Watkins wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
Until next week . . .
