It’s a warm-ish Monday night with highs in the 70s through Thursday and then dropping drastically. There is a chance of snow, sleet or freezing rain through Sunday, or all of the above.
We had a great Thanksgiving and hope all of you did, too. There was turkey and everything that goes with it, but everyone was too full for any dessert. James and Courtney just finished the cherry-cream cheese pie today. All leftovers are gone and it’s back to good old spaghetti tonight!
Liz and I participtated in the “Black Friday on Thursday night” shopping and heard one fight but didn’t see it. We had a good time and we got lots done!
I finally put the tree up Friday, but of course, the top wouldn’t light up. I simply added another string to it and it looks great. Years ago, we had ornament parties and I still love the ones I received that were homemade and I remember who made them. Liz always made her 12 to take and she has the same ones I do.
We attended Jim Edmonds’ 80th birthday party on Saturday at the Covington Church of Christ. He had a big crowd celebrate with him and everyone enjoyed chocolate cake, punch and nuts. It was good to see former Covingtonians Larry and Julia Strange, who live in Jackson now. Happy birthday again, Jim!
I have to get in gear and get my Carl Perkins shopping done, as gifts have to be turned in Friday and I only bought a few things Thursday night. I love doing this every year! Our church "adopts" several children and they are shopping this Thursday night.
Laura Craft has the annual ladies Christmas gift swap each year, and it’s on Dec. 8. I have my gift ready and just need to decide what goodie to take to eat. We always play "Dirty Santa" and have a great time!
Kali Langston broke her radius and ulna and her arm will be in a cast for some time. I’m so sorry that happened to her! Bonnie Holbrook is on our prayer list, along with Johnny Jones, Helen Goforth, Rosie Barnes, and so many others, as well as all servicemen and women and the government!
Sympathy goes to Pam Tankersley in the death of her aunt, Rena Boyd, and to Bonita Rogers in the death of her uncle, Donald Shelton. Mike Rogers also lost an uncle this past weekend. All these families are in my prayers.
The senior banquet is Dec. 12, but Liz and I are taking Lyla to see "The Wizard of Oz" in Germantown that night. There will be no mid-week Bible study on Christmas night and the office will be closed Christmas Eve and day, and New Year’s Day. It’s that time of year!
Happy birthday to Joshua Evins on Dec. 2, Lorie Liles on the 3rd, Pat Armstrong on the 4th and Ginger Sallee on the 7th!
Happy anniversary to George and Paulette Watkins on Dec. 4, and James and me on the 5th!
Clopton Methodist men will host their monthly community breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 7, from 7 to 9:30 a.m. at the church, 5285 Brighton Clopton Road.
Mark the weekend of Dec. 13-14 for Dickens Christmas on the Square. It’s always fun and usually very cold!
This week’s Farmer’s Almanac quote: "Allow just-baked cookies to firm on the baking sheet for 1-2 minutes before transferring them to a rack." Yum – just baked cookies!
I hope you enjoy all the events of the season and stay warm this weekend.
Until next week.
