Covington High School's football booster club has had some well-known speakers over years, including coaches and players.
David Sage, Covington's head baseball coach, has decided to do the same thing for the Diamond Club, the baseball program's booster club.
On Monday, baseball fans will get a chance to meet and hear probably the most famous college baseball coach in the country speak when Ron Polk comes to town.
Polk coached at Mississippi State for 29 years and racked up 1,375 wins. With 1,218 Southeastern Conference wins, he is the winningest SEC coach in all sports.
“This is a great chance to hear a legendary coach speak,” Sage said.
Polk, a member of the National College Baseball Hall of Fame, has coached 35 All-Americans, 25 future Major League Baseball players and eight players who have been drafted in the first round. He's one of only three coaches to take three different teams to the College World Series.
He is currently a volunteer assistant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
In an event dubbed the Leadoff Dinner, Polk will speak at the Chamber Center at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for players and coaches from area schools.
To buy tickets, contact Sage at 497-2000. Covington baseball players will also be selling tickets.
