In the next few weeks, Covington’s historic square will be transformed into Dickens on the Square.
This event, in its third year, returns Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15 from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. The free event is fast becoming a holiday tradition.
The town square, complete with festive lights and evergreens, resembles a Victorian English Christmas.
Christmas carolers, musicians, street performers and actors help create a Christmas feel, while shops are decked out in Victorian Christmas finery and restaurants offer some traditional English fare.
“We love to show off what a great community we have,” said Robin Sealy, of the Covington-Tipton County Chamber of Commerce. ”This is an opportunity for everyone to get involved. We are hoping for 200 volunteers in costume this year, which will be an increase from last year's 150. Everyone is welcome to dress in costume and come out to the square. The costumes can be as elaborate or as simple as you like or you can just come out to be a spectator.”
