The chamber has been hard at work beautifying the Covington square. Lee Johnston and Robin Sealy were out Monday stringing additional lights on the trees.
“The lights just weren’t looking like we wanted them to,” said Johnston. The town square, complete with lights and evergreens, is beginning to resemble a Victorian English Christmas, and by this weekend, when Dickens on the Square returns, the square will have been transformed.
This free event, in its third year, is Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15 from 1 p.m.-5 p.m.
Dickens on the Square is fast becoming a holiday tradition, with many out of town visitors making a special trip to Covington to experience the festivities.
“We love to show off what a great community we have,” said Robin Sealy, of the Covington-Tipton County Chamber of Commerce.
Christmas carolers, musicians, street performers and actors help create a Christmas feel, while shops are decked out in Victorian Christmas finery and restaurants offer some traditional English fare.
