The Covington FFA recently competed in Parliamentary Procedure and Opening and Closing Ceremonies in a preliminary round and in the regional finals.
The opening and closing ceremonies competition is designed for first year FFA members to compete in parliamentary procedure. In the competition, students have to conduct the opening and closing ceremonies, read a secretary and treasurer report, and also conduct basic parliamentary abilities.
The team that was coached by Mrs. Liz Flanagan was simply amazing as they placed second in the district and West Tennessee.
The opening and closing ceremonies will move on to the state competition this March in Gatlinburg at the Tennessee State FFA Convention.
The Covington FFA parliamentary procedure team also advanced to the regional finals, where they finished fourth in the district and fifth in West Tennessee meeting. The members were challenged to conduct a meeting with a series of motions that comes from the latest addition of Robert's Rules of Order. The team members also had to take an examination on Robert's Rules of Order and write a professional secretary's report.
