James G. Dowell Sr. of Brighton will serve as Lane College’s Preacher for the Week during the college’s annual observance of Religious Emphasis Week, which began Monday, Feb. 3, and concludes on Friday, Feb. 7.
Dowell has been a minister for 34 years, the last 19 of which he has been a presiding elder in the First Episcopal District of the CME Church. His duties as presiding elder include supervising 40 active churches with 39 pastors and more than 2,000 members in nine counties.
Dowell has received numerous certificates and awards for leadership and service. He holds memberships in the NAACP and The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), while supporting many other civic and community organizations.
Friday service is at 7 p.m. at Chambers-McClure Academic Center at Lane College.
The public is invited to attend.
