Getting to the core of Common Core

Tipton County has not been immune to concerns that are spreading throughout Tennessee about Common Core Standards, a set of new guidelines set to take place that focus on specific student skills at certain levels across all subjects in public schools throughout the nation. Adoption of this format is optional, though 44 states, including Tennessee, have gotten on board. This is part of a series that The Leader will publish seeking to inform its readers about Common Core Standards.

Unilever to continue expansion

Unilever's Covington plant has been busy of late. Four months ago the company announced a $109 million expansion that will double the facility's workforce by adding 430 jobs over the next three years. Plans are now underway to lease land to U.S. Cold Storage, which will build a $49-million, 316,000-square-foot building that will serve as a freezer and distribution center for Uniliver's ice cream products.
